ICD-10 is the new coding structure required of U.S. hospitals and healthcare providers by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The transition to ICD-10 is taking place because the previous coding system, known as ICD-9, limits a provider’s ability to accurately code a patient’s clinical condition(s), and hospital inpatient procedures.
